The National Medical Association (NMA) International Affairs Committee is organized to maximize both human and capital resources of the organization to make the most effective contribution and to facilitate information among its members.

The NMA’s International Affairs is governed by two bodies:  The House of Delegates Council on International Affairs; the House of Delegates is the governing body of the NMA and is responsible for policy and The Board of Trustees Committee on International Affairs and is responsible for implementing policy.

The primary tasks of these governing bodies are:

• Provide fiscal, technical, and intellectual resources to NMA physician members involved in the international activities.
• Establish linkage with organizations with international affairs interest to that of the NMA.
• Assist with and/or implement relevant international affairs position statements and resolutions concerning international issues.

Members of NMA have long been engaged in medical missions around the world. It is not the intent of the NMA’s International Affairs to replicate these efforts, but rather to serve as a resource to assist and enhance member participation. In the ensuing months, we encourage you to visit www.nmanet.org to view a listing of members on medical missions.

If you are interested in getting involved in medical missions to Sub-Saharan Africa, the Caribbean, Latin America and other countries, we can facilitate the introduction. Contact Byron Sogie Thomas at 202-347-1895 for the Chairs of the House of Delegates Council on International Affairs, Dr. William Johnson and the Board of Trustees International Affairs Committee Chair, Dr. Wilma Wooten.
