Voting Representation within the NMA House of Delegates [Active Members Only*]
The National Medical Association House of Delegates is the legislative body, which establishes broad association policy on national health issues, clinical practices, medical education, special interest concerns, and operations. Delegates based on a proportionate ratio within each state represent regular members. Thus, regular members have a voice in the shaping of national policy that affects your livelihood and the welfare of your patients.
Membership Discounts on Continuing Medical Education Programs
The National Medical Association Annual Convention and Scientific Assembly offers the nation’s foremost program on medical science and African American health. Attendees at this meeting can earn as many as 40 continuing medical education units. NMA membership provides special discounts on registration at this and other NMA-sponsored continuing medical education programs.

NMA members receive complimentary subscriptions to the official publications of the Association:
- Journal of the National Medical Association, the official scientific, scholarly publication of the Association, which has been published continuously since 1909.
-NMA News, the official newsmagazine of the Association, published quarterly.

The NMA physician locator service identifies active NMA members for consumers who are in search of an African American doctor. Active NMA members can potentially increase the access of patients to their practice by enrolling in this free members only service! Regular Membership Card
Your personal membership card, containing your individual membership number, gains you access to NMA’s exclusive member privileges and validates your status as a member in good standing.
Associate Members, Post Graduate Physician Members, Student Members are entitled to all benefits except those denoted as exclusive to Active Members.
Other NMA membership Categories
Associate Membership is open to 1) physicians who are members of chartered medical organizations in non-U.S. countries, 2) U.S. physicians who are located in foreign countries engaged in medical missionary work, or 3) physicians and non-physicians engaged full-time in academic teaching in an accredited medical school and not engaged in clinical practice.
Post Graduate Physician Membership is open to physicians in training in an accredited medical education program.
Student Membership is open to students duly matriculated in an accredited medical school.
Emeritus Membership who have been members in good standing for twenty consecutive years and have reached the age of seventy (70) or are completely disabled, upon application to the Executive Director and approval by the Board of Trustees.
Honorary Membership is awarded to individuals who have made notable and worthwhile contributions in the field of medicine and allied sciences, upon election by the House of Delegates on nomination by the Council on Scientific Assembly.
Active Membership is open to all physicians and Doctors of Osteopathic Medicine (D.O.) licensed to practice medicine in any state or territory of the United States and in the District of Columbia.
