Blue Warriors
Artist: TAFA Size: 38 x 38” Medium: Oil on canvas Year: 2001
Their shields are truth and love, their spears nonviolence and peace, yet they have brought empires to their knees and walls of division tumbling down. These are the warriors that inspired Blue Warriors.
Musical rhythms, heavy passionate strokes and deep spirituality all blend together in TAFA’s lyrical paintings, creating his unique voice. Through this voice he prays, exults, celebrates, lives, probes, wails and dances. “My paintings are my drumsong, my dance of the soul … I am like the divine drummer,” says TAFA, “trying to serve as a medium of life and living … to materialize the transient, the spiritual—to immortalize our cosmic journey, struggles, hopes and visions, the enigma of the drum and its life-giving rhythms.”
Numerous galleries, educational and cultural institutions, and art patrons in the United States, Europe, Asia and Africa have exhibited TAFA’s paintings. His works are in a number of permanent public and private collections, including those of the Ghana’s National Museum; the Superior Court, Washington, DC; and former New York City Mayor; David Dinkins; Bryant Gumbel; and Carl Banks of the New York Giants.
Born in Ghana, TAFA obtained a Bachelor of Arts degree from the College of Art, Kwame Nkrumah University of Science and Technology in Kumasi, Ghana. In 1992, he moved to New York City, where he currently lives.
