The Office of the President-Elect
Candidates for the office of President-Elect shall declare their candidacy to the House of Delegates (HOD) one year before the election, and by subsequently completing the online application, and submitting supporting documents listed. Candidates seeking the office of President-Elect for 2016 should have made a declaration for candidacy by August 5, 2015 at the National Convention in Hawaii. Candidates seeking the office of President-Elect for 2017 must declare candidacy by August 5, 2016 at the National Convention in Detroit.
The name of any active member of the NMA with the qualifications for the office of President-Elect as outlined in the Constitution and Bylaws may be placed in nominations from the floor of the House at the time of elections.
The Nominating Committee shall schedule interviews with all candidates for President-Elect. Ideally, these interviews shall be held during the Interim Meeting or via videoconferencing before Convention 2016.
The Nominating Committee shall make a report to the House of Delegates at the Interim Meeting. Information about candidates for the office of President-Elect shall be included in this report. After the Interim Meeting and before the Annual Meeting, information about each candidate for the office of President-Elect may appear in NMA publications other than Convention-related publications.
Candidates for other offices of NMA may declare their candidacy to the Nominating Committee after the end of the prior year Annual Meeting and up until the agreed deadline for declaration of candidacy of the current year convention. The deadline for completing the process for 2016 is June 30, 2016. Candidates shall declare the candidacy by submitting an application and supporting documents.
The Nominating Committee shall schedule interviews with all candidates for NMA offices who have declared their candidacy and submitted all required documents by the deadline. Applications will not be considered after the deadline set by the Nominating Committee. All applications must be submitted electronically using the form available here. Interviews will not be scheduled without prior receipt of the application and supporting documents.
Prior to the NMA Annual Convention, the Nominating Committee may conduct a telephone/video conference with a candidate to discuss their application and to complete their candidacy interview. A further face-to-face interview may be necessary for some candidates which would be conducted prior to or during the Annual Convention. For 2016, face-to-face interviews will take place at the NMA convention between July 30 and August 3, 2016. The times available for interviews and the location will be announced at or prior to the HOD's first session and posted on this site under key dates.

Qualifications for Candidates
In general, officers must have been active members of the Association for at least three years next preceding their election and in attendance at the Annual Convention of the association
two of the three years next preceding their election.
Only a member who is duly registered and in attendance at the present convention shall be elected to office. The candidate need not be physically present at the time of election.
